When publishers host game previews to show off all of their hottest upcoming titles, there always seems to be one game that attracts more people than the free buffet table. (Trust us, that's amazing feat.) At Electronic Arts' Holiday Preview on June 26th, that game was Spore. As we reported earlier this year, Spore might just be the biggest and most anticipated game ever made. We got an up-close look at Spore Creature Creator at the Holiday Preview this past week, but first here's a few things your should know before diving headfirst into the infinite galaxy of Spore.

Spore Creature Creator, which is out now, is merely a way to whet our appetites before the full Spore game hits shelves on September 7th. In Creature Creator, you have a seemingly endless array of creation tools with which can make your own creature. Using different variations of eyes, heads, bodies, horns, feet, flippers, claws, and any other appendage you can imagine, you build your own beast. You choose what color and patterns it will have, if it'll have wings, and if you think two heads are better than one, so be it! Your creature can be cute, it can be silly, it can look like an artichoke or a Buick if that's what you want. When you're satisfied with your being, you can make it do a little celebratory jig and check out what its babies would look like.

Part of your final step should always involve Sporepedia, the website where you can upload your creature and view other people's creatures from around the world. The site alone is addicting, and it's just a tiny part of the Spore universe. In fact, so is Creature Creator. In the full game, you'll be able to start entire civilizations beginning with a single cell. Based on the attributes you give it, it will evolve, mate, and interact with other user's creatures accordingly. You can explore other worlds and even other galaxies, and there is no set path for you to follow. Basically, this means you'll be spending a lot of time basking in the glow of your computer monitor in the near future.

In our exclusive video interview, we received an official walk-through on creating your own creature and uploading it onto Sporepedia.
