Pop singers that come from other countries are rare these days. We've always had Bjork who, if you even consider a pop singer, has been the most consistent and innovative artist in music today. Less original but just as entertaining is T.A.T.U., that duo from Russia who locked lips in their debut video and have a movie in the works starring Mischa Barton. Sure, there are a couple other foreign vocalists in pop music, but finding one that's original is a task not often easy to undertake.
Hailing from Estonia (a country that borders on Latvia and Russia), Kerli is the newest pop starlet to make her way to the U.S. music scene. And like other popular world artists who've come to the States to release music, she isn't your average Britney or Christina. The title of her debut, Love is Dead, gives you an idea of what she's all about. Her songs are gothic-influenced numbers that toy with chromatic notes and unconventional instrumentation, showing how it takes someone who hasn't been brainwashed by American pop music to make it sound fresh and original.
