Hair Wars: The Battle Against Frizz

How to defeat the heat

First and foremost, there is John Frieda's Frizz-Ease regimen, which jump-started the market in 1991, and in 2006 came Quiet Calm Curl Control, an organic shea butter, wheatgrass and orange oil-based moisturizing cream to enhance curls while providing style control, by Innersense. There is also Cutler Curling Cream; Citre Shine's Making Waves curl booster, Redken Crystal Curls, a defining shine gel, and None of Your Frizzness, a line of shampoo, conditioner and frizz leave-in cream by Herbal Essence.

All "frizz" really is, is just a curl that needs moisture and direction so that is what these products are aiming to do. All of the products are focused on the same goal; control flyaways, keep good static control, improving hair feel, improving ease of combing and manageability, detangle, and they may also decrease the color fade.

Other ways to fight the evil that is frizz is to get a haircut every six to eight weeks. Stopping split ends from splitting up the hair shaft and causing hair to frizz out is quick and effective. When blow-drying, use a nozzle on your dryer to direct the heat down the hair shaft, smoothing it out, and a round brush with boar bristles. When letting hair dry naturally, don't put your fingers through your hair until it is completely dry, especially on those humid days. Avoid washing and blow-drying your hair every day, as this strips your locks of its natural oils. Deep-condition your hair once a week with a hair mask and keep a frizz-control serum, such as John Frieda Frizz-Ease, with you at all times for those midday touch-ups. Pour a few drops into hands, and then smooth over your hair for instant shine.

Don't lose the battle against frizz. When facing rain showers and increasing humidity this summer do not surrender to the enemy. Put on a good defense, destroy the enemy and let your locks shine like they were meant to. You are destined to defeat the heat. May the frizz not be with you.
