As diverse as Melodia is, The Vines show that they aren't just one-trick ponies. There are the acoustically-driven tracks on Melodia that show a more introspective side of the Australian outfit, and then there are the intense blowouts carried by lead singer Craig Nicholls' razor sharp squelches. Those tracks recall the cutting sound of Vines classics like "Get Free" and "Ride," cranking up the volume and energy on fizzing standouts like "Scream," "Braindead" and "He's a Rocker."
For their stripped-down tracks, the group pretty much follows the same formula for each one, rolling from guitar and vocal duets to hazy jams in the span of two-minute vignettes. "She is Gone," "Kara Jayne" and "A Girl I Knew" all start off showing the crisp musical sensibilities of The Beatles and gradually build over their short durations, turning into delightful grass rock numbers and casually balancing the heavier tracks on the album.
