The explosion of alternative rock in the early 1990s added to the excitement of Lollapalooza. During this time, of course, there were more mosh pits, crowd surfing and grunge but that is what made it great.
Today, the festival is pretty much the same minus the grunge. It is still a mix of rock and rap and rock n roll. Some of this years headliners include Radiohead, Nine Inch Nails, Gnarls Barkley, Brand New, Kanye West, and Rage Against the Machine. Parkways Foundation is the beneficiary of Lollapalooza. Parkways Foundation was created in 1994 as an avenue to raise private funds for projects within the Chicago Park District for the enrichment of the physical and cultural landscape of Chicago's neighborhoods.
