Palace Council

Review

In Palace Council, best-selling novelist Stephen L. Carter weaves a story of fiction coated in fact that will have its reader quite intrigued at this chunk of time in our nation's history. As I turned each page, I couldn't wait to see how events would unfold and what I would learn next. His journey of tireless love, political swinging, surveillance and beat downs seem unrealistic and all too real at the same time. Could this have really happened? As I read on, I kept thinking, 'maybe...". Some of the sub-characters in the book include Langston Hughes, J. Edgar Hoover and Richard (or Dick) Nixon. The historical facts and political-ness do not overshadow the complex storyline as one may think, but purely provide a rich backdrop for its twists and turns.

If you'd like history and politics thrown into a love story/mystery, this is your book. If you like any one of those three categories, you should pick it up as well. Hopefully, after reading, you won't come out a paranoid conspiracy theorist. I came out a big Carter fan. Not Jimmy. Stephen.
