The last act of the day was Radiohead, who was the only band to play past 8 PM on any of the stages. That meant only one thing: that the 80,000 people in attendance (it was precisely this number because the festival sold out to that maximum capacity) would all cram into the space to witness the UK indie titans in action. I couldn't take the wall of people crushing my frail body, so I walked to the media area to get some breathing room and watch the show from afar.
The group played hits from the past, including "Fake Plastic Trees" and "Everything is in Its Right Place," as well as cuts from their latest opus In Rainbows. They were good, but it's safe to say that they weren't great. That could stem from the fact that you need to be right up at the front of the stage to witness the magic up close, but from afar, it just was a little boring. Not enlivening enough to get me pumped and excited after a day of standing in the heat, so I grabbed some grub at a local Chinese restaurant and headed back to the hotel to get some sleep. Pretty exhausting for my first day at Lollapalooza!
