Join Mario and friends for some friendly competition in the all-new world of...Baseball Kingdom?! That's right; the gang is teaming up for yet another sports-themed adventure. Joining the ranks of games like Mario Kart, Mario Golf, Mario Hoops, and the beloved Mario Tennis, Mario Super Sluggers is bringing your favorite characters to an awesome new playing field.
Using the Wiimote as your bat, you can play by yourself or with up to four friends in a full baseball game or in one of the baseball-themed mini-games. In the single-player Challenge mode, you'll traverse through Baseball Kingdom defeating enemies and recruiting new members to your team. Once you've assembled your all-star team, it's up to you to defeat Baseball Kingdom's greatest foe at his own game: Yes, in addition to his long list of fiendish hobbies including kidnapping and petty thievery, Bowser is also an expert baseball player. But in order to defeat him, you'll first have to prove your skills in a variety of hitting, pitching, and fielding contests.
In Exhibition mode, you can play with the team of your choice against the computer or with three other people. There are nine mini-games to choose from such as homerun contests and pitching duels. In Toy Field, you can set the skill level of your computer opponents as well as the turn limit in a hitting and fielding competition. There's even an extensive training program for those who feel their virtual baseball skills aren't exactly up to par yet.
Character-wise, there are over 40 to choose from, each with special powers. For example, Mario can turn a fastball into a fireball and Daisy can turn the outfield into a flower garden. If you have chemistry with another player on the field, you'll be able to perform all sorts feats, like stopping a speedy runner or throwing a special item. The nine stadiums each have their own theme, along with obstacles and day and night themes.
Mario Super Sluggers is out this Monday, August 25th. Stay tuned for our official review of the game!
