Prologue

Screams, pleas, cries, the crackle of fire and bones being snapped. That was all I could hear. And I liked it. I liked seeing the blood spurting from wounds as I pulled my sword out of the soft flesh of my enemies. I liked watching them cower in fear as I approached. I liked seeing people watch with their eyes full of horror as I lit their only possessions on fire. I liked burning their hopes and dreams, but I loved snuffing out their candles of life.

Smiling, I walked over to a man who was defiantly standing in my way, his sword pointing at me. He wore a scowl, but I could see his hands trembling.

"You have destroyed my village, my family, my house... I will not let you take my dignity as well!" he shouted. I took a few more steps towards him and put my fingertip on the end of his sword.

"You wanna bet?" I asked. His teeth started to click together and before he knew what was happening, my sword was plunging through his heart. His scream echoed through the small town and I laughed before kicking his body off of my blade.

As it crumpled to the ground, I could hear footsteps behind me. I turned to see five men standing behind me.

"Go now or die," one said gruffly. I shrugged and grinned.

"Oh? How is that going to happen?" I will admit that I was outnumbered, but that wasn't a problem. I grinned once more before slitting the tip of my forefinger and smearing the blood on my sword's blade. It went from cold metal to a fierce flame with the head of a small dragon.

The five men's eyes all widened as the little dragon detached itself from the flame and grew to a rather large size. My dragon spurted flame from its lips and encased all five men in a fiery bubble. This bubble didn't burn them alive. That's too cliche, although the searing heat was a nice touch. No, it filled with a highly poisonous gas that made their last few breaths strained and tortured. It was slow and painful. And I liked it.
