Too Human

Too short?

Written by: Kristen Dunleavy, Senior Editor – Posted: Wed Aug 27th, 2008
Too Human had some pretty hefty expectations from gamers from the get-go: It's made by Silicon Knights, the same folks who brought us Eternal Darkness and Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes. Needles to say, the stakes were pretty high. Here's what's in store.

Too Human's genre can only be described as sci-fi meets Norse mythology. If you think that sounds crazy, that's just the beginning. You play as the Cybernetic God Baldur (seriously), a member of a group called the Aesir gods who have vowed to protect mankind in the long-running war against machines. The gods use cybernetic implants for their cause, making for one heck of a fight. Ultimately, the storyline that Silicon Knights presents us examines the relationship that humans have with machines and questions how much we really depend on them. (The machines, not the humans. Unless you're a cyborg or something.)

So we have an intriguing storyline, but what about the gameplay? Too Human has been described 3rd person action RPG with elements of games like Diablo. This is actually the first game in a trilogy, so this is just the very beginning of the war waged against the machines. Obviously, you'll be doing battle against a number of complex machines, but you'll be attacking them with not-so-complex controls. The game makes use of the dual analog sticks: one controls where Baldur goes and the other is for attacks. You can regain health by killing enemies, so the game isn't incredibly difficult. In fact, many players have complained that Too Human is just too short - it's only 10 hours long. In addition, some have felt that missions become repetitive, and that it doesn't live up to all the hype.

Would you play too human, despite some of the game's lukewarm reviews? Sound off in the comment section and let us know what you think!

Too Human is in stores now.
