There is no superhero more long lasting and beloved than Superman, so it is no wonder that the WB and then CW has kept "Smallville" around for so long. While the writer's strike caused this season to be somewhat shortened (twenty episodes instead of twenty-two), it certainly did not suffer in quality or surprises.
