Babysitting...

  • 03/27/01 11:06 pm
I really hate babysitting without getting paid. Not that i'm actually babysitting for the money, but that's what i feel like i'm doing in band class.

Lemme start at the beginning, which happened in November. Drew, my band directors son, started school here. After school, he comes into the band office while we're practicing, and does WHATEVER HE PLEASES (including get on my nerves, and he does that a LOT)

Today, Pittman split us into groups to practice, and he sent me and Jasmine into his office. His son, Drew, who's 6, came into the room at 2:15 (elementary school gets out at 2:15).

I don't see how such a civilized person like Pittman could father a child like Drew. Me and Jasmine sat in there trying to practice, and he was trying to wipe his cheesy hands (he eats those cheeto things) on us. He started handing us these cheet-o's that he'd bit off of and dropped on the floor.

I can't stand the brat. That office is like Drew's playroom. Pittman keeps his play station, game boy, and a pile of other crap in there for him to play with. In the afternoons, Pittman hooks up his great big video game system (which I never had) and he plays with it.

Yeah, maybe its like i'm a little jealous cuz i never had a game boy or a video game system, and my parents didn't buy me candy bars and junk food all the time, but it gets on my nerves how he brings this junk to school. Drew plays with the toys all during class, and when we're trying to practice, we get distracted by the kid doing funny things in the office.

Drew's also very violent. He attacked Jasmine and tried to beat her up. I'm afraid he's going to become a rapist or abuse his girlfriends/wives when he gets older. This kid was seriously hurting Jasmine, and she's 10 years older than he is!

Pittman needs to give me some extra points in band class for putting up with that brat during class.

GoP's Rant Book: Entry 1- the length of the school year.

  • 03/26/01 11:27 pm
Hey, its me, GoP (not GOP, GoP- the abbreviation for "Girl_of_Prayer". written with a little o).

Okay, this is something i really have a problem with (yeah, i saw this written on another rant page too, so i was 'inspired to rant' on it).

Here in SC, where i live, our school year started on August 7th. That's just WAY too early. We don't get out of school until the end of May either. Why do they have to make it so long? I'm totally against it. Here's why:

**Teachers say they can't cram in the learning curriculum in that short amount of time. I think this is pure crap, because if the teachers would spend class time actually TEACHING instead of ranting about their personal lives and CONTROL the class instead of letting them run wild, those of us who want to learn would be able to concentrate and eventually get all the work done and move on.

**Family time... that's like, nonexistant. Yeah, some people have crappy families, or no families, but i think most teens would say they'd rather be around their folks than in school. During the school year, i've gone for several weeks at a time without seing my grandmother (who, by the way, lives only a few miles away). When you have practice for sports or extracurricular activities, you never get to see your family except during summer and school holidays. On weekends, you have games and sometimes practices and other school things, and if you aren't busy, most high school kids are catching up on homework and sleep.

**Year round schooling... is probably the WORST idea ever (in my opinion). You have two week vacations about every nine weeks or so. Two weeks is pretty short. What if you want to go to a long sleepaway camp or something? Or even one of those academic help camps and school things? Here, we have band camp for two weeks in the summer (which takes up time). If school was year round, i'd have to go to school for about 20 weeks straight with no vacation that time...

**Sports/band camp... our cheerleaders, football players, band, have summer camps at the school. Those take FOREVER (two weeks for band, i think about the same for cheerleading, maybe a little longer for football). School sports are already taking a two week chunk out of summer.

**Why even bother getting a summer job when you keep it for less than two months?

Summer gives us time to be kids. Adults aways tell us to enjoy our childhood... yet they take away summer vacations with longer school years or year round schooling. During the school year, its pretty hard for many of us to just be kids because we're bogged down with homework and extracurricular activities.

Post your thoughts.
