[color=grey] Every day in our lives, we lose people. Some we know, some we don’t know. When we know them intimately, we face the fact of them not being there. What about those that we don’t know intimately or even personally? Where do those memories go? What about heroes? Role models? Favorite actors? Favorite actresses? Where do those memories go? Whether you watch them on a daily basis or once a year or so in a movie, they still have an effect on your life. They provide you entertainment. We loose great actors, actresses, musicians, artists, politicians, comedians, family members, and friends almost every day of our lives, but what happens to the memories that you just can’t let go.
I would like to introduce you to someone who wasn’t so popular when I was younger, but I still enjoyed watching. I did not know much about him until I saw him in the film 10 Things I Hate About You where he played Patrick Verona. He done things that you probably wouldn’t see other guys do. He played a character that every girl had to look up to who had a heart. This movie was not only a comedy, but also a love story where the unexpected happens in everyone’s life. What you don’t see the first time you watch it, you see the next time or the next. This movie was released in 1999, and although he had started his career before that, really opened up the character inside him. He is a man who could play the hero or the villain and you still have to love him.
Heath Ledger started his career with a film in 1992 where he played an orphan clown in the movie Clowning Around. After his career debut in Clowning Around, He had a guest appearance on the television show Ship to Shore where he played a cyclist in 1993. Ledger’s next career move was a series regular on the somewhat popular 1996 television show Sweat, where he played Snowy Bowles. Ledger continued into 1997 where he had a guest appearance in Home and Away as Scott Irwin and starred on the television series Roar as Conor. He also released two movies in 1997, Blackrock where he played Toby, and Paws where he played Oberon. Ledger then continued his career with movies including the second released in 1999, Two Hands. He also had a role in each of the following movies up until his time of death in 2008: The Patriot in 2000, Monster’s Ball and A Knight’s Tale in 2001, The Four Feathers in 2002, The Order and Ned Kelly in 2003, Casanova, The Brothers Grimm, Lords of Dogtown, and Brokeback Mountain in 2005, Candy in 2006, and I’m Not There in 2007. When he passed on January 22, 2008, he was working on the movie The Dark Knight in which he played the Joker. This was one of his best performances, and in my opinion, the best Joker performance, ever. Ledger, who’s life ended in a tragic accident at age 28, gave his last performance in the movie The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, which was scheduled to be released this year, 2009.
Although Ledger’s life ended while he was still young, he gave the audiences performances that they would remember him by for many years to come. Ledger was nominated for many awards throughout his career. The rewards that he went home with, were awards that could in no way define the life that he led, the roles that he played, as many people have stated that he made himself a part of each role that he played. When the world lost him on January 22, 2008, they lost a true, talented, young actor, that may have given us many more years of great roles, however someone needed him more. In my own words, “God needed an actor up in heaven that could play any role that God threw at him, and without a doubt, make it seem so real, like it was such a part of his own life, that he took a child’s father, a mother’s son, a father’s son, a brother, a friend, a family member, an actor, a role model, a villain, and a hero all at once, and no one could have played those roles better than Heath Andrew Ledger.”
In memory of Heath Andrew Ledger, I would like to thank God for giving us an actor who could overcome any role he was given and play anything from the hero to the villain and still touch our hearts. He was a great person and actor and truly put his heart into what he did. He will greatly be missed and I hope that no one ever forgets about this man. God gave us someone who would come into our homes and touch our hearts and now, over a year later, and Oscar winnings that he never got to touch, we will never forget, how great a performance this man has given us. Rest in peace, Heath. You are gone but not forgotten! We love you!
