Getting a New PC

Even on a budget!
Lately, it seems like everyone is just out looking for a good deal, whether it's the housing market, the auto industry, or even when buying a computer. Unfortunately, we live in a society where we depend on computers, so I've decided to break it down for you so that you can get the computer that you need without breaking the bank!

Desktops
Desktop computers are the best way to really get the most bang for your buck when looking at computers. When looking to get the most out of your PC, stick with ones that are middle of the road. You don’t want to go with the lowest end models, they won't last as long as you need, and they might not have the RAM or graphics card capabilities to work with the software you want.

Try something like the HP Pavilion p6110y Desktop. You can get a bundle, including a 20" LCD monitor, for around $570! It has 6 GB RAM, a DVD±RW/CD-RW drive and a front-panel 15-in-1 media reader. Have a great monitor and printer already? Pick up the tower for just over $500.

Laptops and Netbooks
Sometimes a desktop just won't do. With a laptop, remember that it's not just the unit you have to pay for: all the accessories and a great carrying case can also tack on to the price tag quickly!

The new, HP dv7-1448dx, has a lot to offer you for only $650. The AMD Turion X2 Dual-core processor really allows you to multitask and get full use of your laptop, all the time, while conserving your battery life! It also has 4 GB RAM and a great 17" display! You're also not missing out on much, as it comes with a DVD±RW/CD-RW drive and built in Webcam and microphone.

Netbooks are all the rage because they're super portable, and ultra convenient. Dell and Acer both hold the market for netbooks with fun, and trendy colors, but they also have great prices on these handy little PCs.

Dell’s new (PRODUCT) RED Inspiron Mini Netbook (model: IM10-010B) is an awesome netbook for under $400! What can you do with a netbook? It’s actually what can’t you do these days! This one has a 10.1" screen, but allows you to watch TV on the screen with a built in TV tuner. It has 1 GB RAM, and weighs only 2.6lbs! The only thing you can't do is burn CDs/DVDs (or even play them) unless you buy an external optical drive. Keep that in mind when deciding what is best for you!

If you really want something that's a bit out of your budget, wait and be patient. Everything goes on sale in retail! And, if it's not on sale when you're looking, see about finding an open box or refurbished model. Often times, you can save anywhere between 10-30% by going with a refurbished product versus brand new. Check Web sites like Woot.com or Tiger Direct for great deals on refurbished products.

Extra warranties are where retail stores make big money. My advice? If you can't afford to replace the product when something happens to it, then consider the warranty. Say no to all the up-sells at the register. You can get your own anti-virus for free, and you don’t need to pay them $50 to install it for you!

Finally, don't be tempted to spend money on something because it's cheap. If it doesn't do everything you need, you'll be wasting that money and find yourself needing something better. Watch the ads, check the store for open box items and wait it out.

This is so true. I actually bought one of the Acer Aspire Netbooks. Its so small and I absolutely love it and it does everything I need it to do. The only thing it doesnt have is the cd drive. But I got an external and I am perfectly happy with it.
