Meet Your Mate This Autumn

Places to meet your new match
With the weather cooling down, it's only natural to want someone to cuddle up with in the evenings, which makes fall the perfect time to meet other singles. I'm sure you've all heard the cliché to try to woo your next match at a coffee shop, but we've banished that place from our list. Instead of following the crowd, make yourself stand out by picking out these uniquely autumn ways of meeting your new match.

Apple Orchard
Picking fresh apples just sounds like autumn, so what better way to find your mate for the new season? Here you'll meet singles that are normally there with younger relatives (like his kid sister or nephews and nieces), but you'll also meet singles who are into fresh, seasonal ingredients (can you say Top Chef wannabe?). If you spot someone interesting, get up the courage to talk to them. Since you are both there for the same reason (picking apples that is), it's easy to find something to talk about. If you really want to get a good conversation starter, ask if he or she can help you figure out which apples to pick since they look like they know what they are doing.

Park
Since it's not sweltering hot outside, people are gearing up to take more of their exercise outside. In this situation, a dog is optional but definitely encouraged. If you have a dog, it's easy to start up a conversation with fellow dog owners or people who the dog randomly (or intentionally) has a friendly greeting for. Don't have a dog? No worries! If you spot a dog owner all alone, it's easy to strike up a conversation by first approaching the dog with enthusiasm and then acknowledging the owner. You can always ask the owner questions about the dog and pretend you are planning on getting one of the same (and of course you need to gather as much information as possible about the dog you might have to live with in the future).

Autumn Festival
Nothing says autumn quite like warm pumpkin pancakes with sticky maple syrup and fresh caramel apples, so go to a autumn festival where you can usually enjoy these things buffet-style with a group of people you don't know yet. We say yet because of course by the end of this event, you'll know quite a few of these folks. Often autumn festivals have a fundraiser meal with seasonal food (like pumpkin pancakes) as part of the festivities. Go to one of these events, load up your plate and pick out a person who looks like they are lonely to sit next to. It's easy to chat them up by talking about what's on your plate and what you plan on doing while at the festival. Plus, at the end of the day, you can top if off with a caramel apple with the person you meet for a sweet way to end your first meeting.
