Must-Play Games Of Summer

The releases you may have missed
With a few weeks left before school starts again, most people start to wonder where the past few months have gone. More importantly, they wonder what they missed. Well, if you’re one of these people, take notice! Here are five video games you may have missed but should certainly play before your time is dedicated to studying.

G-Force
Platforms: PC, PS2, PS3, PSP, Xbox 360, NDS, Wii, iPhone

Yes, that’s right -- one of the five games you missed was based on a movie about guinea pigs! But putting that aside, look at what it can offer. It’s in 3D on the PS3 and 360, for one. It also features the voices from the film, such as Sam Rockwell, John Favreau and Zach Galifianakis. The game is easy to pick up and play, but hard to master. You play as Darwin (and sometimes Mooch) and try to save the world from appliances that are taking over. It’s a fantastic 3D gaming experience!

Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Marios March Again!
Platform: NDSi
Not only are those cute little wind-up Marios back, but they headline Nintendo’s first major DSi Ware release -- which means the game is available at the tap of a screen for a mere 800 points (less than ten dollars). The gameplay is the same as the previous two games in the Mario vs. Donkey Kong series and closely resembles that of Lemmings. You control the Minis (mini Mario, Peach and Donkey Kong) to collect items and exit each stage through the door. It sounds simple, but it’s extremely difficult to master. So take the time now to master it since that time won’t be here for long.

Punch-Out!
Platform: Wii
Some of you may remember Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out for the NES. Well, it’s back and better than ever! You play as Little Mac, a boxer working his way around the professional circuit. You can play using different controls, such as the remote on its own, the remote and a nunchuck or the best option -- the remote, a nunchuck and the balance board! So when it’s too hot to go outside, make Little Mac sweat instead and enjoy the newest update of this Nintendo classic.

Singstar Queen
Platforms: PS2, PS3
With the original Singstar craze being overshadowed by bringing singing to Rock Band and Guitar Hero, it would not have been hard to let this release go unnoticed. But if you’re a fan of singing or Queen, it’s certainly something you have to try out. The tracklist includes "Another One Bites The Dust", "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "We Will Rock You" among many other smash hits. So grab some friends for one last gaming party, hook up some mics and rock out to "Fat Bottom Girls"!

Tales of Monkey Island
Platforms: PC, Wii
Who doesn’t love a good pirate story to end the summer? The gameplay is similar to the others in the series and many RPGs where you take control of the main character to explore new places and solve puzzles. The difference from other games is that it’s a game you’ll want to continue once school starts as new chapters gets released each month until five chapters are released. So start now and get the first couple of chapters in, and you’ll be able to take a break from studying with the next three releases in September, October and November!

Now that you’re armed with a few of the less-common games of the summer, give them a whirl! You’ll laugh, you’ll sing, you may even dance. But in any case, it will be a blast.
