Littlest Pet Shop Friends for Wii is an interactive story game where you lead a cast of animals and their best friends through setting up the perfect surprise party. Along the way, you’ll meet new pet friends, play mini games and unlock accessories for your pets.

The game starts with two of the pets, whom the player names, preparing for the arrival of a new, mystery pet.  You’re throwing the new pet a surprise, welcome party and you must make your way through the virtual world prepping for the party.  In your travels, you’ll meet up with other pet shop friends who are in turn invited to the party with their best friends.

Completing a task usually involves playing a mini game. The games are basic enough for young players to complete them without too much frustration and they’re well placed to break up the monotony of walking around talking to other pets. Once a mini game is completed, you’re often rewarded with additional accessories for your pet.

Unlike previous Littlest Pet Shop games, you can customize the appearance of your pets with these accessories. While this does nothing for the storyline of the game, it’s a fun extra that makes it feel more like you’re controlling the game, rather than just going through the preset motions.

This game is clearly targeted for a young crowd, but the heavy reliance on reading dialogue is a bit limited as younger players will need someone to help them along. Still, the kitschy game play and nostalgia factor will keep even slightly older players
