Recap: The Biggest Loser

Episode 4

Another week of The Biggest Loser brings a whole new set of challenges.

Tracey hopes to be able to join the other contestants in the gym, but Dr. H. delivers some bad news; Tracey is barred from doing ANY exercise at all. She must rely solely on her diet for weight loss until her health improves. She has no idea just how difficult keeping a handle on her diet will be this week. Coach Mo felt he had to carry the weight for the Purple Team, which is especially frustrating as he experiences severe back pain later in the week.

The contestants walk into the kitchen to find Aly there and all the cabinets and fridges padlocked. She lets the contestants know that they would not have access to their kitchen for the entire week and would have to order out for all of their meals. This will be difficult, but it gives the players a taste of how life would be outside the Biggest Loser ranch. To make life at home a little easier, the contestants are given the chance to win free healthy groceries for a year. They are presented with three meals that are similar but have some minor differences. Each team must choose which meal was the healthiest. Three teams chose the correct one, but a tie breaker left the Pink Team (Rebecca and Amanda) victorious.

During their first day of ordering out, the players get very frustrated. The players request special changes to make their meals healthier, but those requests are not always met. After hearing everyone's frustrations, Bob and Jillian take all the contestants out to a restaurant to give them some guidance on how to eat out.

Given the difficulties the players are facing in terms of their diet, they are very excited to be given the opportunity to win immunity at the challenge. For the challenge, the contestants must lie on a slanted platform suspended over a pool, holding handlebars. As soon as anyone let go of the handlebars, they fall into the pool and are eliminated. Shay shocks everyone by being the last woman and the fourth to last player still holding on, despite being the heaviest person in the game. Her efforts are rewarded – her teammate, Daniel wins the challenge, guaranteeing one more week for the Orange Team.

At the weigh-in, no one knows what will happen, especially given how difficult it was to control their diet this week. The Orange Team definitely benefited from having immunity; Daniel did not lose any weight, and Shay lost only five pounds. The Black Team (Julio), and the Brown Team (Liz and Danny) fell below the yellow line. The players struggled to come to a decision, but in the end, Julio – the only remaining member of the Black Team – went home.

The Biggest Loser airs Tuesdays at 8/7c on NBC.
