Give your Xbox a big hug! Microsoft announced at the E3 video game conference being held this week that Xbox and Netflix are making an awesome new deal that will give Xbox 360 users the chance to play movies on demand through their consoles.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, under the agreement, Netflix's Watch Instantly streaming-movie service will be playable on televisions connected to the console without any additional software or hardware.

This service will be free to Xbox Live Gold members who are also Netflix subscribers. The deal could boost Microsoft's efforts to turn the Xbox 360 into a digital entertainment hub, and it potentially gives Netflix access to more than 12 million Xbox Live subscribers.

I've checked this service out, and the movies available for the streaming service are sub-par. Unless you want to watch "A Very Brady Sequel" 5,000 times, I would hold off.

This sounds really cool, but the term "free" I think is a little misleading. Neither Xbox Live Gold nor Netflix subscriptions are free, so what they really mean is that no fee will be added to the cost of those two subscriptions-- and I'd certainly hope not. Being subscribed to both those things sounds like a lot of screen time, though, in the summer. Maybe they should have announced it in January, when no one wants to go outside.
