A janitor whom a university official had accused of racial harassment for reading a historical book about the Ku Klux Klan on his break has gotten an apology -- months later -- from the school.

Charles Bantz, chancellor at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, apologized to Keith John Sampson in a letter dated Friday, saying the school is committed to free expression.

"I can candidly say that we regret this situation took place," Bantz wrote.

That is very stupid and I think I would sue if I were in his position. Maybe he was just trying to inform himself!

Seriously, its like reading a book about the Nazi party - does that make you an anti-Semite?

I read about this in the paper a few days ago. I think it's pretty crap that he was called a racist just because of a book he was reading. The title of the book that the paper mentioned seemed like it wasn't even a pro-KKK book anyway, so I don't understand how someone could get upset about that. It was something like "how so-and-so won against the KKK" or whatever. It's good he got an apology, but it should have never went that far in the first place. :-/
