The big winner in the console sales war continues to be Nintendo. Monthly sales numbers released by NPD puts Wii on top in September with 687,000 units sold, up 37 percent compared to September 2007. (Considering that they are still in short supply, that number could have been even higher.) Sony sold 232,000 PlayStation 3 consoles, almost double that of last year, while sales of the older PlayStation 2 declined. Xbox 360 console sales dropped to 347,000 from 528,000 in September of last year. That's still a healthy number, said Michael Pachter, a Wedbush Morgan video game analyst. And sales have jumped 78 percent compared to August 2008, after Microsoft cut the price of its consoles between $50 and $80. The reason for the fall: the halo effect of Halo is over. Last year, the hot game, exclusive to Xbox, boosted the console's sales. Monthly sales numbers released by NPD showed that this September seven video game console titles sold 250,000 units or more, compared to September of last year, when only three games hit sales of at least 250,000. Back then, Halo 3 dominated the console market with 35 percent of all video game units sold. Do you have a Wii?

One thing will slow sales of the Wii: flooding the market with them. I want them to do that so that I could finally get ahold of one, but that would be a bad business decision on Nintendo's part. So Nintendo, if you can find it in your heart to ship out a couple of extra units to my local retailer in the near future, I would appreciate it. Thanks.

I have a Wii. I got it for Christmas last year. My mom and stepdad bought it in August and kept it hidden until Christmas. :) I love the Wii.
