you can see why people would be confused though.. the title is quite misleading.

It would be really nice if people actually read the entire article. Now I know here that is considered wrong, and that it's still considered rape even if she was willing and even if they were married. But, I honestly think it sucks for the Dad who honestly did not know that this was illegal here and it sounds like he's just being used to make an example of.

She's 14 years old. In California (if you read the article you'd know) the child still has to be 16 years old in order to get married with the consent of their parents. She's 2 years underage. Now, I understand that the people in that area weren't aware that it's illegal to arrange marriages like this but hopefully the police can make an example of this situation to let them know that, yes, in the United States this is illegal and no, just because your culture says it's ok doesn't mean you are immune. While you live here you have to respect our laws, period, whether you agree with them or not. Otherwise you'll find yourself in jail.

Okay, everybody, its clearing known that the daughter WILLINGLY went to the guy. Stop picturing her screaming for help as her dad sells her. Due to their beliefs this is okay. Stop freaking out with this "What if your dad sold you" stuff. And to answer that question, depends, what kind of beer?

Cultural differences are one thing, but when you choose to live in the United States then you CHOOSE to obide by the laws of our nation, if you want to sell your daughters then go back to your country where it isnt illeagle.
