In addition, your hands and feet chill quicker than other parts of your body (since blood flow is concentrated away from them when it gets cold). So, wear a hat...wear gloves...wear good, thermal socks. Also...gentlemen, do you wear leggings when you run in the cold? Don't laugh. They improve performance by improving circulation.

My great runs are more of a release than a workout, just time for myself to let go and leave any stress or frustration on the pavement (or treadmill). This playlist is filled with lines that inspire me to do just that. Beginning with "We Are Young," I start to get into the zone, and by the time I hear "I don't care, I love it!" I'm letting it all go. The last song, "Take a Walk," reminds me that putting one foot in front of the other may be the best way to address any negative tension that builds up throughout the day.

Intense workouts; Too dangerous for your health?
One of those dangers most recently linked to CrossFit is called Rhabdo, short for Rhabdomyolysis or severe muscle damage. "If you have extensive muscle damage, like a muscle bleed for example, all that muscle substance can basically go to your blood stream and from there filter to the kidneys." Sports Medicine Dr. Julio Martinez at Baystate Medical Center, said. Some patients need to be hospitalized for that kidney damage. But the owner of CrossFit Jouney, a CrossFit affiliated gym in Springfield, said the word intense needs to be clarified "It's a relative internet term, you have to understand and have a relationship as a coach with your athletes, what intensity, relative intensity for them is, because there's a difference," Ralph said.
