Beverley: my home town

I live in Beverley, a small market town in the north of England. The town dates back to medieval times and has a wonderful minster, racecourse and large stretch of land to the west of the town called the Westwood. Recently named as one of the best places to live in the UK, Beverley seems to have it all. It has reasonably priced housing compared to the rest of the UK, its small enough to care but big enough to mattter, is close to the countryside and not too far from Hull, the nearby large city.

Transport links too are pretty good too - with railway links north to Scarborough and south to Hull and the rest of the country's rail nework. If you're an avid walker then there are lots of routes around the town and a little further afield. The most noticeable being the Wolds Way which winds its way across the Yorkshire Wolds.

Cyclists love Beverley too as it finds itself part of the Tour de Yorkshire and has a great little cafe in the town called Cafe Velo which caters to all manner of cyclists. There are lots of cycle routes and national cycleways too which fan out from the town centre.

Shopping in Beverley is a happy occasion with lots of cute independent shops lining the pedestrian streets as well as a large Saturday market which is a focal point in the town for festivals of which there are many. Beverley hosts a literary festival, a festival of Christmas, a folk festival and a blues festival. 

There are also lots of restaurants in Beverley from small independent Michelin star restaurants to large chains. You'll also find a variety of independent cafes and classic British pubs in the town too. In fact there are old coaching inns dating back to the 16th century.

Entertainment is also avalable outside of the pubs and restaurants. The Parkway Cinema is a multiplex cinema showing the latest movies. The East Riding theatre puts on lots of plays and shows throughout the year and smaller productions are performed at the Memorial Hall.
