Cristiano Ronaldo Helps Portugal Get Leg Up In World Cup Playoff

At Lisbons Stadium of Light, Cristiano Ronaldo edged Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the battle of potential World Cup superstars, scoring a late diving header which gave Portugal a 1-0 win over Sweden in the first leg of their play-off. The Real Madrid star headed past Sweden goalkeeper Andreas Isaksson in the 82nd minute from six yards out after a fine left-wing cross from Miguel Veloso. Ronaldo, who now has 29 goals for club and country this season, almost made it 2-0 moments later when another header thundered back off the crossbar. But the Portuguese had to settle for a one-goal edge ahead of the second leg in Stockholm, where star striker Ibrahimovic will be key to helping Sweden to the finals in Brazil next year after a low-key performance on Friday.

Obama Picks Vivek Hallegere Murthy For Surgeon General

"Agents and brokers understand the desire of legislators and the president to try to make people whole," online says Jessica Waltman, senior vice president of government affairs for the National Association of Health Underwriters. "However, they are concerned that taking this action at this late stage of the game will have a further destabilizing effect on the market and will impact who enrolls in the exchanges." Besides, she says, it's "just going to delay inevitable changes to http://bovtyu.devhub.com/blog/2350030-inside-the-kanye-kim-courtship-how-rapper-finally-landed-reality-star-9-years-later/ the market. We're eager to get more details how this can work and not cause prices to go up." The president's guests at Friday's meeting are expected to include CEOs of Cigna, Aetna, Humana, and Blue Cross Blue Shield. Obama's meeting with the insurance CEOs also comes as the Republican-run House approved a bill that would allow Americans to keep existing policies indefinitely; the bill would still http://wademcse.sosblogs.com/Blog-b1/Whoa-Kim-K-Has-A-Run-in-With-The-Cops--Its-All-Due-To-The-Paparazzi-details-b1-p11.htm have to be approved by the Democratic-run Senate. Aides said Obama would veto the House GOP bill, saying too many existing policies Kim Kardashian are substandard. Obama said his proposed one-year extension is designed to help insurers and consumers adjust to the demands of the new law.

Obama's answer was, essentially, that he had been too optimistic: "My working assumption was that the majority of those folks would find better policies at lower cost or the same cost in the marketplaces," he said, and that "the universe of folks who potentially would not find a better deal in the marketplaces" would find that "the grandfather clause would work sufficiently for them." He added: "It didn't. And again, that's on us that's on me." In other words, Obama took responsibility for making a bad guess. But thats sleight of hand: He didn't promise people they would probably be able to keep their plans. He promised they would keep them, plain and simple. And as Obama all but acknowledged yesterday, what was interpreted as a presidential guarantee was in fact an estimation of probabilities -- and a lousy one at that.

on Nov. 14, 2013. Related Follow @TIMEPolitics In an effort to appease a frustrated public and rebellious party, President Obama introduced a fix to the Affordable Care Act Thursday, allowing insurers to provide existing customers health care plans that had been cancelled for next year. But the executive action only temporarily stifled the revolt in the Democratic Party without changing much the underlying conditions of their anger. Among Capitol Hill Democrats Thursday, there was open discussion of breaking with the president, a stunning turnaround from last month, when the party remained firmly united to defend Obamacare during the 16-day partial government shutdown. The current state of the system is absolutely unacceptable and this is a start, said Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.).

On closer inspection, the claim that President Obama lied in saying that people could keep their insurance looks like another Fox News special. In the only way that the pledge could be interpreted as being meaningful, the pledge is true. The ACA does not eliminate plans that were in existence at the time the bill was approved. If we want to play Fox News, President Obama also promised people they could keep their doctor. Since 2010 tens of thousands of doctors have retired or even died. Guess the pledge that people could keep their doctor was yet another lie from the Obama administration. Dean Baker is a co-director of the Center for Economic and Policy Research in Washington, D.C.

On Thursday, the president tried to address a rash of cancellations of health insurance policies that do not meet Obamacare's standards by allowing those policies to continue well into 2015. The solution could create new snags. Insurers and state regulators said it may lead to higher premiums and logistical nightmares. Obama, facing the biggest crisis of his presidency, unveiled a plan on Thursday which would allow insurers to extend by at least one year policies due to be canceled because they do not comply with new minimum requirements under the 2010 Affordable Care Act, widely known as Obamacare. With several million people facing the prospect of having their policies canceled, Obama is trying to stem the damage to his credibility over his repeated promise that if people liked their policies they could keep them. At a news conference on Thursday, a contrite Obama acknowledged that he had a credibility problem and had lost the confidence of many Americans on Obamacare, meant to be his proudest domestic policy achievement but now a major political headache. Obama's announcement on Thursday was designed to short-circuit a push for more far-reaching changes in Congress and end a growing revolt by Democrats worried that popular anger over the cancellations, and the glitch-ridden online insurance website that is central to the healthcare overhaul, would threaten their re-election bids in 2014. But insurers complained his fix could create new problems and lead to higher premiums. State insurance commissioners, who regulate the market, said they were also concerned.
