Different Types of Solar Cover for Your Swimming Pool

Covering is a common way to filter insects and debris entering your swimming pool when it’s not used. However, conventional pool cover can neither block the evaporation well nor keep the heat for night swimming. Solar cover technology comes with energy and budget saving. There are at least three types of solar cover: Solar Blanket, Solar Ring, and Liquid solar. Let’s have look at them.

Solar Blanket

Solar Blanket is the common swimming pool cover available in the market. It both covers and warms your swimming pool when you’re no longer use it. It works by simply covering the pool like a blanket.

Aside from saving your budget, the solar blanket has various advantages. Covering your swimming pool with a solar blanket will cut down the evaporation level-up to 95% and keep the heat for the pool. The solidity of solar blanket would filter any insects and/or debris so you can keep the water clear save your electricity budget from excessive pumping. Whatever chemicals you use to treat the water in your swimming pool, you can save them up too.

The only concerns about the use of solar blanket are how you clean and store it. You need to properly clean and dry the blanket before you store it back. Depending on the size of your pool, a larger blanket could be exhausting and time -consuming to clean.

Solar Ring

If you prefer a more practical way to cover your swimming pool, you may consider the solar ring as an alternative solution. It provides similar functions to the solar blanket but with more decorative properties. The solar ring products are now available in various printing designs and colors.

You can use solar rings to cover the swimming pool by inflating them on the pool water. Different size of pools would require a different number of the solar ring. They’re either sold per unit or in a set so you can purchase solar ring based on your need.

Covering your swimming pool with solar rings provides you with various advantages. It reduces evaporation up to 50% and keeps some of the heat for a warm night swim. Even though there are gaps between rings, most insects and debris would be filtered by the rings. The solar ring would be best if you swim more frequently in your own pool.

Solar Liquid

Solar Liquid is an advanced solution to cover your swimming pool. It contains aliphatic alcohol which forms a monolayer film on your pool water. The liquid would both reduce evaporation and keep the heat for night swimming.

Each swimming pool would require a different amount of solar liquid depending on the pool’s volume, the weather condition, and liquid’s containment. More solar liquid needs to be added if the weather gets too dry or as heavy rains.

However, solar liquid products may generate some concerns. It only reduces evaporation by 15% and they can’t filter insects and bugs which means you need to manually filter the surface before using the pool. In other hands, the solar liquid is considerably expensive especially when you have a larger pool.
