The children get together on a weekly basis to plan cultural awareness and fundraising activities. The intention was to go into the school because unfortunately in Frankston North there was issues of racism occurring, we came into work with the students it was affecting and it became a student-led program. They came up with exploring and celebrating culture, said Ms Talbot. Weve got a range of backgrounds within the group, with a lot of them coming from South Sudan, the worlds youngest country. We also have children from Bosnia, India and anglo Australia so its a good mix. The Textas use food and cooking as a vehicle in spreading their message and are now focused on raising money to help strengthen their community. On Friday night, the Saints donated signed memorabilia pieces for the group to raise at their trivia night. Part of their focus now is that they want to give back to their community, so they are keen to raise money for charity. Any funds made at the trivia night on Friday night will go towards the Frankston Hospital Childrens Ward, said Anne Linton from the Frankston North Hangout Resource Centre.
