Much of the research has been conducted on animals, and the findings are anything but conclusive. A new human study published in the Journal of Physiology suggests that runners should think twice about taking two popular supplements, vitamins C and E. As the study authors put it in their conclusion, Vitamin C and vitamin E hampered cellular adaptations in the exercised muscle, and we advocate caution when considering antioxidant supplementation combined with endurance exercise. High-tech Lives Spur Back-to-basic Fitness Workouts

Once the domain of fitness fanatics, high-intensity interval training is poised to hit the mainstream in 2014, according to a new survey from the American College of Sports Medicine. The programs use bodyweight exercises and are scalable, so that people can push their own pace and intensity during their workouts. Many studies have shown that these types of workouts increase an individuals level of fitness faster than a steady state cardiovascular routine, like jogging, can do.

It's tempting to settle into living room DVD hibernation mode, no matter how much I remind myself about the benefits of exercising outside. Naturally, aside from a warm pair of gloves, it takes some pretty motivating music to get me out the door -- and maybe a little delusional dreaming visualization that I'm actually somewhere warm.
