Top 6 Broadway Musicals of All Times

Musical is something iconic for Americans. It must be really hard to choose a favorite one having so many magnum opuses staged. Andrea Edmunds has presented ten Broadway shows ever. You may either agree or not but one more musical should be definitely included to the list. Take a look at the hottest 6 musicals of all times, according to the latest survey.

Let’s take a stroll down Broadway lane:

  1. Chicago (1975). The script of the show written by Maurine Dallas Watkins was severely criticized by her teacher of theology but even such a devout person had to admit how perfectly she reflected those times. Murders, adulteries, greediness, corruption, violence… The musical has turned into a classical masterpiece having reached a sky-high success.
  2. A Chorus Line (1975). Directed and co-choreographed by Michael Bennet, the musical is often characterized by spectators in the following way: “This story is about me”. 17 dancers were auditioned and each of them needs to provide a glimpse into their souls. The show was being staged for 15 years running daily!
  3. Les Miserables (1987). French Claude-Michel Schönberg and Alain Boublil created the musical based on the novel of Victor Hugo “Les Miserables”.The idea was soon borrowed by Cameron Mackintosh. The English version of the show doesn’t want to leave the stage for 31 years! The story of ex-con, Jean Valjean and his way of spiritual redemption during the Revolution in France is truly second to none.
  4. The Phantom of Opera (1988). The word grandioseperfectly suits for a description of the musical directed by Joel Schumacher. The creators present a fabulous story of love which is able to melt even the most hardened heart. The show holds the second place of “the most financially successful performance”. In addition, the musical got the title of the longest.                     6473064384716742260.jpg

Several generations were raised with Simba, Mufasa, Scar and Hakuna Matata. The musical keeps gaining more fans around the globe. It got the first place as the most financially show on Broadway ever.
  6. Hamilton (2015). They say that all the best musicals were made in the last century. However, all of a sudden, a new smash-hit appears and gets the palm of musical supremacy in the 21st century. This show is about American past that comes to life in order to remind people of who they are and where they live now. The sung-through rapping lyrics and awesome acting made the performance a universally acclaimed one.
